The Raut-Kotka name is built up on one hand by its location - the lake Rautjärvi and secondly by the original estate Vanha-Kotka. The story tells that iron ore has been collected from the bottom of Rautjärvi for the nearby furnaces. You can dive pieces of iron ore easily from the bottom of the lake, which is only a couple of hundred meters away.

The Vanha-Kotka estate was hosted in early 1900 by Jussi, the son of Mäki-Heistola with his spouse Kerttu from the neighbour municipality Kuhmoinen. Kerttu was the dauhter of Kaukola farm and family. Our ancestors have shared variants of their first names for the two cottages.

The new cottages of Raut-Kotka have been built in the waterfronts of the lake Mäkeintausta in our farm named Rautkotka. The farm is combination of land parcels of the original estates Vanha-Kotka and Mäkeintausta topped with the whole of Rimminniitty. The Rimmilä cottage name is derived from those roots as well as the small Rimmi-creek.

In addition to the new log buildings, there is another refurbished log-house and holiday site in Kuhmoinen on the southern banks of the attractive and time-honoured Kuhmakoski-rapid. There are a lot of related feelings in the estate of Kuhmamäki, the childhood home of grandmother Kerttu.
